Customer Spotlight: Fort Huachuca, AZ
In our last Customer Spotlight, we were at an upscale RITZ CARLTON in the southern Caribbean Sea showing you how well the GreatFence product stands up to the salt-sea air. Now shift from sandy beaches to dusty roads and breathe in the history of our nation as we travel to FORT HUACHUCA (pronounced Wah-CHOO-kuh) to see GreatFence.com hard at work in the hot Arizona sun.
The Fort
Fort Huachuca was built in 1877 to protect southern Arizona against the Chiricahua Apaches, led by Geronimo. Fort Huachuca was also the headquarters of the famed 10th Cavalry, the “Buffalo Soldiers,” and was declared a national landmark in 1976.
Today the fort is an active U.S. Army post and home to a U.S. Army Intelligence Center, and the U.S. Army Network Enterprise Technology Command (NETCOM)/9th Army Signal Command.
The Project
For this project, 1800 linear feet of 6-foot-high GreatFence commercial grade fence surrounds and protects the Fort Huachuca cemetery. The cemetery is a beautiful, placid place, higher up in the foothills than the rest of the 110-acre post, and is off by itself at the end of one of the housing areas. It contains the graves of the men who fought against the Apaches, and the families who have lived in the Fort since then.

The Gate
The cemetery project shows our ability to create a unique, individualized gate for any type of property, whether it’s for the government, or for your home or business. The colorful handle, fashioned after the original emblem for the Fort, is a lovely custom design that our artists helped create. We can work with your graphics too, as long as the design can be rendered in metal.
The largest gate, shown at the main entrance to the Fort, shows off our very sturdy and elegant Style 2 Industrial Estate Gate. It’s our heaviest gate, and all the components of the GreatFence Estate Gate are individually designed and factory assembled, first with stainless-steel fasteners, and then welded at all connections and joints. The entire assembly is protected with a premium powdercoat – a durable finish that withstands heat and weather of all kinds.
The thickness of the industrial gate material exceeds that of the commercial fence to give it just that much higher a sense of massiveness and durability. The Panels
The six-foot-high fence panels surrounding the cemetery are our Commercial Fence Panels Style 2, with beefier pickets, larger rails, and thicker gauge metal than the residential grade. We added staggered spears to match the gates. Because the commercial grade is not quite as thick as the industrial grade that we used on the main gate, it offers a slightly better value and saves money if industrial fencing is not needed throughout your project, as in this case.
Whatever choice you make you should know that not all aluminum fence products are the same! Even our residential products are independently tested to offer superior horizontal force resistance and higher vertical deflection than other national brands. This means that ours can be used in place of commercial grade fencing for some applications.
